Dr. Hesham Atwa

Dr. Karim Paracha was born in Los Angeles, CA, but grew up in Costa Rica, where after medical school he worked for the Costa Rican government as primary care physician in a rural clinic on the border of Panama. Among his many international medical credits he has volunteered his time to provide medical services in the Philippines. He was also dedicated to the research of diabetes and metabolic disease, and the impact of obesity in hispanic children at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. During his residency he developed a passion for minimally invasive surgery and the advantages it provides to patients. He received the "Outstanding Junior Resident" award for two years in a row. As Chief Resident at Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester, in New Rochelle, New York, he decided to pursue Bariatric Surgery. As a leader in the field of laparoscopy he extended his advanced surgical training and was chosen from a limited number of candidates to attend a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Bariatric Surgery at the renowned Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York. He joined Dr Atwa at Long Island Laparoscopic Doctorssm in 2011 to help design our unique, patient focused weight loss program.

Patients eagerly welcome seeing Dr. Paracha's "light-up" the room smile after surgery and congenial bedside manner. No question is too insignificant to ask Dr. Paracha and that goes for patient families, as well.

Dr. Paracha has tailored his practice to address the needs of bariatric patients because of his love not only for the technical aspects of the procedures, but also the overwhelming positive experience he has encountered working with weight loss surgery patients, reducing their comorbidities in area such as arthritis, asthma, depression, diabetes, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, joint and back pain, sleep apnea and stress incontinence and reducing medication usage.
